“Wisest leader Award”

Finally the day arrived. The day I finally obtain an award for all my hard work and tender words of wisdom. Not saying I will win, but I’m practically a shoe in for the, “Wisest Leader Award.” The only problem is my opponent, Martin Luther King Jr. That man has got some pep in his step, and is full of endless words of good judgment, it’s like he has god built into him. I realize my competition is tough, but I will receive that award whether he likes it or not. I know my kingdom will come through for me after all I have always been a great leader to them.
After all I’m the wisest man in the world, even wiser then Gandhi. I can conduct world peace with the snap of my fingers. My kingdom used to be a retched place with: dog fights, stealing, and even stealing an innocent mans satchel. As I spoke with the people of my Kingdom about their harmful ways, I touched them with the gentle words of my guidance. I explained that violence and unkind acts are never the answer, simply something as easy as being happy cannot just make this kingdom, but the world a better place.
Then there’s my competition Martin Luther King Jr. Who has changed the way black and white people looked at each other. Yes, I admit he is good, and gave a spectacular speech, while thousands & thousands of people watching. In my eyes bringing peace throughout a kingdom which I do every day, is better than bringing peace throughout a country.
I’m already planning out my speech, well you know just in case I happen to win. I will thank all of my family, well the people I can remember anyway, and then I will thank the voters, and last but certainly not least my maid Joyce for letting me wake up to a fresh glass of Orange Juice every morning. Hopefully I will win otherwise I would have done all my hard work for nothing.
The ceremony was in 30 minutes. I walked outside to thousands of my subjects screaming my name. I wanted to be fashionable early to the ceremony so I boarded my carriage and was on my way. I hear a young boy running aside my carriage yelling, “he’s dead he’s dead!” When I go t to the ceremony I found out that my opponent Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, while giving one of his famous speeches. Hm does that mean I win? I went over to ask the man who was giving the award and he said, “Everyone is so sad and devastated of Martins death so we are postponing the ceremony.” My jaw dropped I spoke back to the man, “Can’t I just get the award?” The man replied, “It wouldn’t be fair if you just won the award, we’re delaying it till we can find a legible candidate to compete against you.” I agreed with the man’s statement like the gentleman I am, yet inside I was I wanted to scream like a little girl. Oh well life goes on, I’ll get that award someday.

Risking It All

Waking up every day to birds chirping, listening it to the sound in your cabin in the middle of the forest. Putting on your jacket; walking outside to a big open clearing of animals. Throwing bird seeds on the dirt filled ground, waiting for the birds to pick them up with their little beaks, then throwing a net over and capturing them. Seeing that one special dove that stands out from the rest, and it’s hard just not to marvel at its beauty. While knowing you have to kill the beautiful creature, for the kings table. In the short story, “The Hundredth Dove,” by Jane Yolen, teaches readers that if you don’t listen, consequences will follow.
A lesson many children learn when their younger is listen and respect your elders. In this case the fowler Hugh, was loyal to his king, so whatever he says goes. As we get older this respect never wares away, people need respect for: jobs, everyday communication, and just to any person or thing. What some people don’t understand is listening and respecting skills are not something you are forced into learning it’s something you should naturally execute. If you don’t you could be fired or get killed or all I know. For example if your boss is asking you to print him some copies and another worker said don’t do it, you would still do it because that was your job. Unless your boss says no then you follow the command. That’s how this main character felt, he wanted to listen to the bird but he couldn’t, because in his eyes the king was first and the forest was second. The character didn’t want to let the king and his new fiancĂ© down, plus he wanted money; he was not ready to give that up for some talking bird. That just goes to show how loyal this fowler was.
This story reminds me of a personal experience were someone that worked for my mom was always: late, didn’t get things done on time, and never listened to her instructions. Within just one week he was fired. That’s why the fowler didn’t want to let the king down because he knew if he did good things would not happen.
What made all of the pieces of this story come together was the symbolism scattered throughout the piece. The largest piece of symbolism stored in this story is the white dove. With the reason being the dove was like the fowlers conscience, he was following orders but the dove was trying to give him signs. Some signs were: escaping the net not once but twice, being the only white bird, and the only bird that could talk. This symbolized that he should let the birds go, because the king didn’t need them anymore. Overall this story was mostly a Tragedy/Comedy. The reason for that is because it has mixed symbolism between the two. It is partially comedy because it begins with normalcy, but it is also Tragedy because it ends in the death symbolism of the white dove.
While reading this story although the fowler was a loyal man he never listened to the thing he should’ve the unique white mythical dove. Which makes me think a story called, “Papas Parrot,” by (……….author), because in that story the main character never listened conscience and came back to visit his dad. Similar to the story, “The Hundredth Dove,” by Jane Yolen, because the fowler never listened his conscience the dove, and ended up killing 99 birds for no reason. In, “Papas Parrot,” he never realized that family always comes before friends. Within both of these stories the main characters never took time and really thought things through.
Although listening is a huge factor in this story respect follows and that’s one thing the fowler defiantly had towards his king. For the bird It was kind of one of those I told you so moments.

Troubles of the teen life

Sitting at home constantly on Facebook, Twitter, and other online chat groups practically wasting your life;complaining about it to other people. While spending hours and hours staring at a computer screen, just waiting for that one person to answer or comment, to make you feel important. The book “Serrafina67 *urgently requires life*,” by Susie Day teaches teens that there’s a life outside the computer that is waiting to be explored.
Everyday parents watch their children become sucked into the powerful use of technology. An average person everyday wastes 7due to technology related gadgets. Isn’t that sad? People are consumed so much online in the fake world rather than going outside and really smelling the roses of the outdoors, which is the lesson the author was trying to display. The author was describing, if you’re always on the computer you won’t be able to handle the life outside. You will lose things like how to talk to a person without all of the abbreviations. Plus the internet is forever, whatever you post or say will never go away. Is use of technology overused?
With our world these days adults seem to influence technology most. Such as in my school district grades 7-12 all have laptops and they are used daily, and not always for the right reasons. Although technology is used for communicating, writing, and just doing the jobs that make our human lives easier, we don’t always use it in the proper way. The thing teens don’t understand is being on the computer, texting, and watching T.V. is not good for you, just like in the story the main character is a larger girl that doesn’t go outside and hasn’t experienced what the real world is like. People go on the computer practically just to escape from real life.
Over time as your choosing electronics over alternative healthier things like exercise you begin to gain weight and even loss of brain cells. That’s what happened to the main character in this story she got so lost in her computer but she realized what it was doing to her so she tried out for the cheerleading squad. A lot of teens in the world don’t realize like the main character did and it’s too late, and they get results like: obesity, diabetes, and cancer which can all lead to death. It may seem like it’s not that big of a deal, but when it leads to something as big as death it is a huge deal.
While reading this book I realized not only the effects of a teenage girl who lives on her computer but also signs of Symbolism. For example the story almost has the exact layout of a comedic mode line. It starts with normalcy: then she has a problem which is her weight is too heavy, and her solution was she tried out for the cheerleading squad and lost over 20lbs and it all went back to normal. Also other signs of symbolism occurred such as blue and pink which were her favorite colors and those colors symbolize which are soft and nice colors which represents a comedic mood.
This book is a book that you can get many things from good and bad. Which makes it quite simple to find similarities with other things you have experienced, or with other litature pieces. A litature piece with a similar connection is “No Escape,” by Lynn Rosellini.” The similarity I found between the two was both main characters don’t think before they do. In “No Escape,” the main character jumped into a hole risking his life without even thinking about his family and in, “Serafina67*urgently requires life*,” she completely forgets about her health and is about to hit obesity. What both of these characters don’t realize is their lives are at stake. Something they both did that was good, was they both did something about it. With the main character in, “No Escape,” he did what he did to save another person but returned safe to his family and in, “Serafina67*urgently requires life*,” she realized her constant use of technology was too much and tried out for cheerleading. The difference between Swaby and the main character of, “serafina67*urgently requires life,” is she did her actions out of foolishness and Swaby did what he did out of bravery.
In life sometimes we forget to think twice, but when we do we usually make the right choice in the end. With this story there’s a girl with no life that practically lives on a computer but then opens her mind and experiences new things. “Serafina67*urgently requires life*,” by Susie Day inspires teens everywhere that there is a life outsid
