“Wisest leader Award”

Finally the day arrived. The day I finally obtain an award for all my hard work and tender words of wisdom. Not saying I will win, but I’m practically a shoe in for the, “Wisest Leader Award.” The only problem is my opponent, Martin Luther King Jr. That man has got some pep in his step, and is full of endless words of good judgment, it’s like he has god built into him. I realize my competition is tough, but I will receive that award whether he likes it or not. I know my kingdom will come through for me after all I have always been a great leader to them.
After all I’m the wisest man in the world, even wiser then Gandhi. I can conduct world peace with the snap of my fingers. My kingdom used to be a retched place with: dog fights, stealing, and even stealing an innocent mans satchel. As I spoke with the people of my Kingdom about their harmful ways, I touched them with the gentle words of my guidance. I explained that violence and unkind acts are never the answer, simply something as easy as being happy cannot just make this kingdom, but the world a better place.
Then there’s my competition Martin Luther King Jr. Who has changed the way black and white people looked at each other. Yes, I admit he is good, and gave a spectacular speech, while thousands & thousands of people watching. In my eyes bringing peace throughout a kingdom which I do every day, is better than bringing peace throughout a country.
I’m already planning out my speech, well you know just in case I happen to win. I will thank all of my family, well the people I can remember anyway, and then I will thank the voters, and last but certainly not least my maid Joyce for letting me wake up to a fresh glass of Orange Juice every morning. Hopefully I will win otherwise I would have done all my hard work for nothing.
The ceremony was in 30 minutes. I walked outside to thousands of my subjects screaming my name. I wanted to be fashionable early to the ceremony so I boarded my carriage and was on my way. I hear a young boy running aside my carriage yelling, “he’s dead he’s dead!” When I go t to the ceremony I found out that my opponent Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, while giving one of his famous speeches. Hm does that mean I win? I went over to ask the man who was giving the award and he said, “Everyone is so sad and devastated of Martins death so we are postponing the ceremony.” My jaw dropped I spoke back to the man, “Can’t I just get the award?” The man replied, “It wouldn’t be fair if you just won the award, we’re delaying it till we can find a legible candidate to compete against you.” I agreed with the man’s statement like the gentleman I am, yet inside I was I wanted to scream like a little girl. Oh well life goes on, I’ll get that award someday.

Risking It All

Waking up every day to birds chirping, listening it to the sound in your cabin in the middle of the forest. Putting on your jacket; walking outside to a big open clearing of animals. Throwing bird seeds on the dirt filled ground, waiting for the birds to pick them up with their little beaks, then throwing a net over and capturing them. Seeing that one special dove that stands out from the rest, and it’s hard just not to marvel at its beauty. While knowing you have to kill the beautiful creature, for the kings table. In the short story, “The Hundredth Dove,” by Jane Yolen, teaches readers that if you don’t listen, consequences will follow.
A lesson many children learn when their younger is listen and respect your elders. In this case the fowler Hugh, was loyal to his king, so whatever he says goes. As we get older this respect never wares away, people need respect for: jobs, everyday communication, and just to any person or thing. What some people don’t understand is listening and respecting skills are not something you are forced into learning it’s something you should naturally execute. If you don’t you could be fired or get killed or all I know. For example if your boss is asking you to print him some copies and another worker said don’t do it, you would still do it because that was your job. Unless your boss says no then you follow the command. That’s how this main character felt, he wanted to listen to the bird but he couldn’t, because in his eyes the king was first and the forest was second. The character didn’t want to let the king and his new fiancĂ© down, plus he wanted money; he was not ready to give that up for some talking bird. That just goes to show how loyal this fowler was.
This story reminds me of a personal experience were someone that worked for my mom was always: late, didn’t get things done on time, and never listened to her instructions. Within just one week he was fired. That’s why the fowler didn’t want to let the king down because he knew if he did good things would not happen.
What made all of the pieces of this story come together was the symbolism scattered throughout the piece. The largest piece of symbolism stored in this story is the white dove. With the reason being the dove was like the fowlers conscience, he was following orders but the dove was trying to give him signs. Some signs were: escaping the net not once but twice, being the only white bird, and the only bird that could talk. This symbolized that he should let the birds go, because the king didn’t need them anymore. Overall this story was mostly a Tragedy/Comedy. The reason for that is because it has mixed symbolism between the two. It is partially comedy because it begins with normalcy, but it is also Tragedy because it ends in the death symbolism of the white dove.
While reading this story although the fowler was a loyal man he never listened to the thing he should’ve the unique white mythical dove. Which makes me think a story called, “Papas Parrot,” by (……….author), because in that story the main character never listened conscience and came back to visit his dad. Similar to the story, “The Hundredth Dove,” by Jane Yolen, because the fowler never listened his conscience the dove, and ended up killing 99 birds for no reason. In, “Papas Parrot,” he never realized that family always comes before friends. Within both of these stories the main characters never took time and really thought things through.
Although listening is a huge factor in this story respect follows and that’s one thing the fowler defiantly had towards his king. For the bird It was kind of one of those I told you so moments.

Troubles of the teen life

Sitting at home constantly on Facebook, Twitter, and other online chat groups practically wasting your life;complaining about it to other people. While spending hours and hours staring at a computer screen, just waiting for that one person to answer or comment, to make you feel important. The book “Serrafina67 *urgently requires life*,” by Susie Day teaches teens that there’s a life outside the computer that is waiting to be explored.
Everyday parents watch their children become sucked into the powerful use of technology. An average person everyday wastes 7due to technology related gadgets. Isn’t that sad? People are consumed so much online in the fake world rather than going outside and really smelling the roses of the outdoors, which is the lesson the author was trying to display. The author was describing, if you’re always on the computer you won’t be able to handle the life outside. You will lose things like how to talk to a person without all of the abbreviations. Plus the internet is forever, whatever you post or say will never go away. Is use of technology overused?
With our world these days adults seem to influence technology most. Such as in my school district grades 7-12 all have laptops and they are used daily, and not always for the right reasons. Although technology is used for communicating, writing, and just doing the jobs that make our human lives easier, we don’t always use it in the proper way. The thing teens don’t understand is being on the computer, texting, and watching T.V. is not good for you, just like in the story the main character is a larger girl that doesn’t go outside and hasn’t experienced what the real world is like. People go on the computer practically just to escape from real life.
Over time as your choosing electronics over alternative healthier things like exercise you begin to gain weight and even loss of brain cells. That’s what happened to the main character in this story she got so lost in her computer but she realized what it was doing to her so she tried out for the cheerleading squad. A lot of teens in the world don’t realize like the main character did and it’s too late, and they get results like: obesity, diabetes, and cancer which can all lead to death. It may seem like it’s not that big of a deal, but when it leads to something as big as death it is a huge deal.
While reading this book I realized not only the effects of a teenage girl who lives on her computer but also signs of Symbolism. For example the story almost has the exact layout of a comedic mode line. It starts with normalcy: then she has a problem which is her weight is too heavy, and her solution was she tried out for the cheerleading squad and lost over 20lbs and it all went back to normal. Also other signs of symbolism occurred such as blue and pink which were her favorite colors and those colors symbolize which are soft and nice colors which represents a comedic mood.
This book is a book that you can get many things from good and bad. Which makes it quite simple to find similarities with other things you have experienced, or with other litature pieces. A litature piece with a similar connection is “No Escape,” by Lynn Rosellini.” The similarity I found between the two was both main characters don’t think before they do. In “No Escape,” the main character jumped into a hole risking his life without even thinking about his family and in, “Serafina67*urgently requires life*,” she completely forgets about her health and is about to hit obesity. What both of these characters don’t realize is their lives are at stake. Something they both did that was good, was they both did something about it. With the main character in, “No Escape,” he did what he did to save another person but returned safe to his family and in, “Serafina67*urgently requires life*,” she realized her constant use of technology was too much and tried out for cheerleading. The difference between Swaby and the main character of, “serafina67*urgently requires life,” is she did her actions out of foolishness and Swaby did what he did out of bravery.
In life sometimes we forget to think twice, but when we do we usually make the right choice in the end. With this story there’s a girl with no life that practically lives on a computer but then opens her mind and experiences new things. “Serafina67*urgently requires life*,” by Susie Day inspires teens everywhere that there is a life outsid

“Sticks and Stones may Break my Bones but Words will Never Hurt me”

Rain drop, after rain drop, falling down on the cold surface of Venus. Margot looking blankly through the window with emptiness in her eyes, watching the rain whip away her soul. Thinking of when she was back on earth where the sun came out on a regular basis. The rain hasn’t stopped for seven years; all hope is being lost for the sun to appear again. When rain is constantly falling down people’s moods become more, and more miserable. This short story, “All Summer in a Day”, by Ray Bradbury displays the effects of constant rain, making an impact on people’s feelings and actions.
Imagine nonstop rain for seven years, I don’t even like when it rains for one day.During rainfall it usually lowers my contentment; people typically want to stay inside when it rains instead of going outside and taking on the world. Considering it’s been raining for seven years, it makes me wonder if they have flooding problems. The longest rainfall ever on earth that’s recorded happened in Cherrapunji, India over a twelve month period where 1,042 inches of rain fell. So if you multiply that by 7, it’s an estimated 7,294 inches which is about 606 feet of water! That is about the height of the Abraj Al Bait Towers, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. If this happens in other places, what do they do to manage rain?
Outcomes from all of this rain make me think, does constant rain mean something? The answer is yes, rain is a part of symbolism and symbolism explains the type of story and the feelings that are stirring. For example, in “All Summer in a day”, there happened to be a lot of dark toned colors, which represent Irony. This story overall is a mixture between Irony and Tragedy demonstrating that it has mixed Symbolism between the two. Such as the seasons, the story is a mixture of spring and fall, it’s more difficult to tell what the season is because it is a fictional story, or in other words not realistic. Constantly occurring throughout the story was the symbolism of rain. Considering rain isn’t what you’d say a happy feeling, it makes for more of a gloomy setting, and mood throughout the story.
Margot the main character was defiantly affected by the weather due to the fact that she used to live on Earth. Living on earth made her stand out in a crowd because she has experienced something that no else around her bares to understand. Margot remembers seeing the sun. It's kind of like she is an outsider and a comparison that is to a silent girl, on one of my basketball teams. Everyone knew she wasn't very talented, and she was always quiet, and people didn't respect her and help her like a true teammate should. In the end just like in the story someone finally gave her a chance and passed her the ball and odd enough she made a shot. For instance in the story, William was a jerk, but then he realized how his actions were effecting Margot. He found that his actions were harmful, which made him feel something he may have never felt in his life, regret. Overall, he was jealous of Margo because she has seen the sun, and he hasn't seen the sun before. When rain occurs for that long it can make people insane, mad, or just depressed which is maybe why William was a jealous person, or just a plain out a mean person. He had no believe the sun would come out and Margo had faith, which therefore made her an outsider and that’s were bullies have the easiest way to attack.
In addition to that, I can make a relation with a litature piece called, “Deep Water” by William O. Douglas, where the feelings felt by the main character are very similar to the main character in, “All summer in a day”. Meaning the main character in, “Deep Water” was traumatized by water and overall he showed that in his story. While Margot the main character in, “All Summer in a day” was traumatized verbally and with contact. In deep water the boy suffered an almost life death experience by being pushed in a pool and almost drowning and Margot got locked in a closet and missing the beautiful rays of sun peeking through the clouds. One may be way worse than the other but they either way they ended up traumatized and exaggerated outsider. With Margot she was a teacher’s pet, and kind of nerdy, and the big thing is she once lived on earth. As for the main character in, “Deep Water” he couldn’t swim so he had to wear dorky water wings. JELOUSY over all conquers the body of these kids who are bullying, the main characters of these stories. These kids both have something in common they are an easy target to get picked on. When people act out like these bullies did towards the main characters it makes me think, other than jealousy are they doing it. Is it possibly because they are down in the dumps about a specific thing? Could they possibly be the affects of constant rainfall?
While weather affects the way people act, it also makes me think because of the weather, and why wouldn’t they want to move? Another question that runs across my mind is how does Margo get to the rainy surface of Venus? I haven’t to the slightest guess, of why and how Margo moved to Venus. Did she take a rocket? Or is it some type of technology were you can just zap there. “All Summer in a Day”, by Ray Bradbury brings all of the questions to my head, and really opens up my mind to all different kinds of solutions and thoughts.
Overall even though this story made me think a little, it displays a astonishing message of how weather affects people, and their actions in throe detail. A final thought I’d like to display is don’t let the rain bring you down, find sunshine on a cloudy day, words from, “My Girl”, by Marvin Gaye. Live Life to the fullest; don’t let a thing as little as rain, control you.

Essay 3

THE CLEARING
By: Jordan Zimmerly
Jesse Stuart wrote this story for a purpose to make us think, what it would be like to be all alone. With no neighbors, no family, or nobody to help you. To tell you the truth it would be a living nightmare, because you always need help in your life, for example many men think they can fix everything. The TV, dishwasher, car, even though truly they can’t. That’s why we need help, because there are special people for special things, it’s called their profession. Having peopled to help you along the way is the most crucial thing in a human’s lifetime.
Throughout this story there are many lessons told, which will help us humans of the world, with our everyday lives. A lesson I have learned from this story is with more people and when working together you can accomplish anything. Similarities I can make with the piece, was last year trying to set up a fundraiser with only 2 days; overall it was hard trying to do it alone but when the whole class helps it can make quiet the difference. That just shows that working as a team or together is key, in life because somebody is always there to back you up.
Another relation is the message in the “The Clearing”, which is to help neighbors lik you would help your own family, also applies to this one movie that is similar called Santa Clause 2. Were they didn’t have enough toys for Christmas, so all of the elves, along with the humans, worked as hard as they could, and completed a Christmas miracle. Just like in the story were the fire spread to the trees and was going to burn down everything, but even though the neighbors weren’t friends with the family, they still helped out just like the humans they weren’t friends with the elves but they still helped.
The reason the author wrote this book is to display a life example. Supporting people throughout their life is not something you have to do it’s just something you should perform. For example my mom saw my neighbor Chuck have a heart attack, while getting the mail & instantly she dialed 911 to get help for the poor old man. There’s so many little and big things that you can do to help, that will impact a person’s life.
Symbolism plays a huge part in this story, it explains the mood: for example a picture describes a thousand words, a word with symbolism can describe a whole story, like in the movie the pearl where Kino said he was going north and north represents comedy, therefore the story was a comedy. Within this story Symbolism is scattered everywhere, a piece of word that stood out to me are sunny and afternoon which represents comedy. Words like these can set a mood, for example sunny and bright would bring content so you’d think the characters would be happy, or if the setting is dark toned colors or rainy it is probably a tragic story or a terror.
All of these thoughts and ideas taking place in this story make readers think as well as me, what is and what makes a fine neighbor? Being a good neighbor includes, helping out no matter what the circumstances are and treating them as if they’re your family. Overall you should treat your neighbors like you would treat yourself, words from the Lord Himself.

Meaning of the song fireworks!

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag  (do you ever feel useless & unwanted)
Drifting throught the wind
Wanting to start again  ( just start your life over)

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel already buried deep  ( do you ever feel like no can here you or understand you?)
Six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing  ( when you try to branch out nobody can here you)

Do you know that tehre's still a chance for you  ( I'm still considering you)
Cause there's a spark in you   ( because you're unique)

You just gotta ignite the light  ( build up your courage)
And let it shine   ( and show everyone the real you)
Just own the night     ( blow everyone away)
Like the Fourth of July       ( like the fireworks on the 4th of July how amazing they are)

Cause baby you're a firework     ( your unique and amazing with all of your colors.)
Come on show 'em what your worth      ( Show the world your worth something)
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"    (surprise them)
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework     (your a great person)
Come on let your colors burst    (show people who you are)
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"   (shock them)
You're gunna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own   ( you may be surprised of how much they like you back.)

You don't have to feel like a waste of space   ( dont feel like you dont deserve to live)
You're original, cannot be replaced         ( Nobodys like you)
If you only knew what the future holds    ( it may be bad now but your future will be way better)
After a hurricane comes a rainbow           ( everything always gets better)

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed       ( maybe you were the one holding yourself back.)
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road      ( just keep driving you'll find the smoothest road)

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow      ( you will change instantly)
And when it's time, you'll know         ( you'll know when your changing)

You just gotta ignite the light       (Get out of your comfort zone)
And let it shine             ( just explode your personality and let it shine)
Just own the night             (be the life of the party)
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on slet your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gunna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own   ( your going to leave them surprised)

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on slet your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gunna leave 'em goin "Oh, oh, oh!"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
